Green December

Unlike the previous December, this one has had a relatively dry start and little rain is expected in the week to come. Enough rain has been falling to keep the plants green, however. I am still getting used to the fact that the grass gets greener here the closer one gets to winter. I'm sure the grass in my home state of Montana is good and brown by now.

While walking through the grassy field, I saw dozens of killdeer pop up around the trail. These guys are usually loud and skittish in the summer when trying to protect their nests and young, but lately they have been pretty mellow, casually walking away as I approach.

Huge mushrooms have also been popping up in and around the trails.
